Governor El-Rufai Adopts Yakowa’s Peace Report On Crises

el-rufai11Governor Nasir el-Rufai of Kaduna State on Thursday said his administration will establish a peace and reconciliation committee, similar to one set up by the late Governor Patrick Yakowa to tackle the persistent crises in the state.

The late Yakowa had on January 25, 2012, set up a 70-man committee to identify and proffer lasting solutions to the recurring crises in the state before his death in December of same year.

The committee submitted the report to former Governor Mukhtar Yero, who failed to act on it before his defeat in the April 11 poll.

El-Rufai, who lamented that a similar report of the late governor was dumped by Yero, said he would also dust that report to study it and implement some of its recommendations.

The governor spoke while playing host to the officials of Northern Elders Christian Forum and Northern Christian Traditional Forum, who paid him a courtesy visit at the Sir Kashim Ibrahim House on Thursday.

El-Rufai explained that  his administration would soon establish a “peace and reconciliation commission” in the state to tackle specific challenges.

According to him, the decision is part of the effort to pursue full and genuine reconciliation among all inhabitants of the state.

The Governor also said government would work on seeming sharp divisions along religious lines among the people of the state to enable residents to reside in any part of the state without fear.

“We will very soon establish a peace and reconciliation commission in Kaduna State. This is part of the recommendations of the peace and reconciliation committee that was set up by our late governor(Yakowa).

“The previous administration dumped the report,  but we will dust it up and implement certain recommendations that will result in lasting peace in the state,” the governor said
